The United Reformed Church

Who is the United Reformed Church? We are a family of Christians, worshipping in the name of Jesus in about 1500 local churches from Orkney to Cornwall.

  • 'Reformed' means that we delight in the Bible, we do not fear change, and we try to run our churches in ways that take everyone's insight and contribution seriously.
  • 'United' is an important part of our story. We started when English Presbyterians merged with English and Welsh Congregationalists in 1972. Churches of Christ joined in 1981 and Scottish Congregationalists in 2000. We still work as closely as we can with Christians of all traditions and styles.
  • And we are one 'Church'. We aim to grow through supporting one another and taking decisions together.

Christians Together In Chelmsford

The mission of CTiC, as we are also known, is to be a champion and a catalyst for all God is doing in Chelmsford; to see Christians of all denominations and traditions come together as friends, ‘as one’, so the name and the Good News of Jesus Christ may be made famous throughout our City.

Chelmsford  - a Kingdom City

Chelmsford is no longer, as in its history, a provincial market town, but since 2012, a City - one that has a God given purpose and destiny.
Since the beginning of 2019, we believe that The Lord has started to reveal vision and strategy for our City as a place where The things of the Kingdom of God can be known and found, by all in our region and nation.
This is a bold assertion and those leading  CTiC are taking careful steps, one at a time, to listen to God further and in conjunction with other Christian leaders here, to see what this might mean.
We are in exciting times and we must, similar as in the Bible book of Revelation, listen to what The Spirit is saying to The Church in Chelmsford - and act accordingly!

The House of Retreat is situated at the edge of a small, moated village in the heart of the Essex countryside and is a place of prayer, space and quiet reflection. We offer a varied programme of Retreats and Quiet Days, many of which are suitable for people who have never been on a retreat or quiet day before.

We have lined up some wonderful Retreats and Quiet Days for this year and would encourage you to look at the programme on our website. Through the Summer we have some interesting longer Creative Arts Retreats as well as a Walking Week, which is for the ambler as well as the rambler!
